Josh’s Tips & Tricks: Go Abroad to Play

Intro

Hello golfers, welcome to this week’s tips & tricks. This week I want to share some of my experiences with you and encourage you to get out and play more golf, in this country and abroad! I spent the weekend playing golf in Portugal and cannnot recommend it highly enough. Let me talk you through it and get you prepared if you do have any golfing trips booked in.

Courses

I went to the Algarve to play this weekend and have done plenty of times in the past. This was the first time I have been since Covid and realised when I was there quite how much I love and misses it. The courses are always immaculate and offer a completely different feel to courses in this country. This is usually a lot more water and the greens are bigger. The ball travels further in warm weather and it’s always nice to have a buggy.

Laranjal

The first course I played was Laranjal. This is one of my favourite courses anywhere in the world. It does not have a blade of grass out of place and every hole has amazing character. The driving range and putting green are 5 star and are enough to make anyone want to practice and improve their game. If you ever visit the Algarve you have to play this golf course.

Pinheiros Altos

This course has 3 different 9s so we only played 2 out of the 3. I have previously played all of them but the ones we played are the most iconic. There is an island green (just like playing in the Players Championship) and lots of trees! This course is a lot more rustic and had a lot more burned areas so the ball was travelling lots further. The practice facilities are great here too but the best bit is the view from the bar. The balcony overlooks the whole course and was even better with a cold Super Bock in hand (local beer).

Travel Essentials

Whenever you go away there can be a lot of stuff to remember to take. Here at Windmill we can help with that! We don’t sell suncream but we can get you all of your golfing essentials. When you go away you’re probably going to want plenty of good golf balls, a new hat, new towel, a travel bag to take your clubs in, a lightweight golf bag to save on weight, a new glove, some new polo shirts, maybe even some new clubs!

Summary

If you do have any golf trips planned come in and we will do everything we can to get you fully prepared.
